Success Stories

Read how we help our residents. The comments below do not include the individual’s real names, but are all true examples of the people we’ve helped.
John came to Choice Housing Trust after a relationship breakdown and a period of depression. Through our support services, he found stability and regained his confidence. Today, John has rebuilt his relationship and is back with his partner, and is an active volunteer in his local community giving support to hundreds of others.
Sarah fled domestic violence and ended up in a nearby homeless hostel but she struggled with mental health issues and drug dependency, and was evicted from the hostel. At Choice Housing Trust, she was provided with the accommodation and support she needed, and she was eventually able to end her drug dependency, get support to manage her mental health, and move on into independent accommodation.
Richard battled with alcohol dependency for years, which led to serious ill health, the breakdown of his marriage, and his subsequent homelessness. With the stability afforded by our accommodation and the support of our team, he accessed disability benefits, medical treatment, and ongoing support for his recovery. Richard is now sober, has re-established his relationship with his wife, and is working towards a brighter future.
Michael lived in a council property before coming to us, he had a lot of health and mobility issues, including alcoholism, and type 2 diabetes. He had separated from his wife and was living in a B&B. Sadly Michael ended up having his leg amputated, under the circumstances he could no longer navigate the stairs at the B&B so he was referred to us. We provided him with ground floor accommodation. We helped him apply for Personal Independence Payments, and following our casework and support at an appeal tribunal, he was awarded this benefit. He went on to give up alcohol, he made amends with his wife and moved back into the marital home.
Craig was an alcoholic sleeping rough before coming to us, after moving into Choice Housing it was apparent that he was unsuitable for our services and needed more sheltered accommodation with a warden on site to help with his needs. It took a long time, a lot of patience and effort to sort this out with other organisations, but we eventually found him sheltered accommodation where he still is today.
Stuart was referred to us by a hostel in Humberside where he had been for 4/5 years, prior to that he’d been at the Salvation Army hostel for 2 years. He went to the Salvation Army after being a homeless street drug user and he needed some help. He was in his 60’s when he came to us, we helped him with his drug issues, helped him apply for his benefits, and got him on a council house waiting list. We also helped him reconnect with his family that he’d been estranged from for almost 10 years. He’s now living in a council flat, is drug free, and has re-established his relationship with his family.
